    Hike Kayak Fish
    Keymaster

Spent a couple of hours kayaking fishing a small pond in Monroe County, NY.  Most of my success came on creature baits, weightless, in 10 – 15 feet of water.

      Largemouth

This is the creatue bait I have been using lately – I’ve been using both 3″ and 4″ in a few different colors.

      I also caught a few smaller fish on a Rapala X-Rap 08.

For some reason, I lost a lot of fish on this trip – either with a fish’s final jump before I got ’em to my kayak, or when they dove deeper.  All of the fish I lost – and, it may have been 10 fish – were on a Berkley 7″ curly tail worm.  I need to double-check my hook on that pole…..I don’t think I’ve ever lost that many fish in one trip.

Fishing in Monroe County, located in various states in the United States, can offer a wide range of opportunities to enjoy pond fishing. Here are some general tips and information about pond fishing in Monroe County or any similar region:

Local Regulations: Check local fishing regulations, as they can vary by state, county, and even specific ponds. You may need a fishing license, and there could be specific rules about catch limits, bait usage, and more.

Pond Selection: Monroe County, like many areas, has a variety of ponds to choose from. Some may be publicly accessible, while others are on private land. Make sure you have the necessary permissions to fish in a particular pond.

Fish Species: Different ponds may have different fish species. Common pond fish include bass, bluegill, catfish, and trout. Know what you can expect to catch, and tailor your gear and bait accordingly.

Fishing Gear: Your choice of fishing gear will depend on the fish species you’re targeting. Typically, a medium to light spinning rod and reel combo with 6-12 lb test line works well for a variety of pond fish.

Bait and Lures: Live bait such as worms or minnows, or artificial fishing lures like soft plastics and spinnerbaits, can be effective for pond fishing. Learn what works best for the fish in your chosen pond.
