Spent a couple of hours hiking the Lakeshore Trail, within Fair Haven Beach State Park. We started from the cabin we rented, but there is also parking at the trailhead if you wanted to do this as part of a day trip.

The hike starts with a forest trail, that runs along the marsh area near the Sterling Creek.

Encountered this garter snake early on – who appeared to be still digesting his breakfast.

After walking along Lake Ontario for a half-mile or so, the trail goes back into the woods, and then comes back out onto an isthmus that separates Lake Ontario from Juniper Pond. There is a beaver lodge in Juniper Pond that appears to be active.

The bluffs themselves are pretty cool….but, hard to really capture with a camera.

The walk along the bluffs did require some wave-timing, and darts around corners to avoid getting wet. I love my hiking boots, but wished I was wearing something more water-proof for this part of the hike.

Came upon this northern water snake chillin’ on shore. In the past, I have seen these snakes catch gobies in the water, and move onto the shore to swallow them.

In the end, it was just over 4 miles, and took a little over 2 hours. It was a great hike, and could easily be combined with a day at the beach at Fair Haven, walk out onto the pier by Little Sodus Bay, and a lunch at the pavilion, or in the town of Fair Haven.
