Adirondack High Peaks, Lake Placid, New York
Starting off at the trailhead for both Cascade and Porter mountains.
So fresh…..no naive…
Around 3/4 of the way to the summit, you can decide if you want to head toward the peak of Cascade or Porter Mountain. We hiked to the top of Cascade first, and then continued to the top of Porter Mountain second
Two roads diverged in a yellow (white) wood….
Not at the summit yet….but entered a clearing with some pretty cool views.
…and, finally, the view from the top of Cascade Mountain
Our obligatory “look at me, I’m on top of a mountain” pictures. Lol….I can be cynical, but it was a really cool feeling being up there.
One thing that surprised me about this hike, other than some birds, I did not see any wildlife. No deer, squirrels, rabbits….nothing. I know there was still snow on the ground, but I would have expected to see at least a few animals along the way. These were my first 2 high peaks….I have no clue if it is unusual to not see any animals.
This is the hike summary from my phone.
Lol…it sure felt like I burned off a lot more than 964 calories….felt like at least six IPAs worth of calories to me.
We stayed in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lake Placid, which worked out great. From there, you can walk into town for shopping, a bite to eat, or a few well-deserved pints at a pub.
On day two of our trip, we cheated and took a gondola to the top of White Face Mountain.
